UFC 300: Justin Gaethje and Max Holloway to fight for BMF title

UFC 300- Justin Gaethje and Max Holloway to fight for BMF title

Justin Gaethje will face fellow American Max Holloway for the symbolic BMF title at UFC 300 on 13 April.

The lightweight contest is the latest fight to be added to the UFC’s landmark event in Las Vegas.

Gaethje, 35, won the BMF title last July when he knocked out Dustin Poirier while it is 32-year-old Holloway’s first fight at lightweight since 2019.

Jim Miller, who fought at UFC 100 and UFC 200, will also feature at UFC 300 against Bobby Green.

Veteran lightweight Miller turns 41 in August and is the all-time leader for wins in the UFC with 26.

The BMF title is awarded to the ‘baddest’ fighter in the UFC and has only been contested twice since its inauguration in 2019.

Former featherweight champion Holloway last fought at lightweight four years ago when he lost to Poirier for the interim title.

Gaethje has had mixed fortunes in his last five bouts – losing in two title fights – but is on a two-fight winning streak after impressive victories against Rafael Fiziev and Poirier.

Other fights confirmed for the flagship event at T-Mobile Arena include a strawweight title match-up between China’s Zhang Weili and her compatriot Yan Xiaonan.

There is also a lightweight title eliminator between Brazil’s Charles Oliveira and Armenian-Russian Arman Tsarukyan plus a light-heavyweight contest between former Czech champion Jiri Prochazka and Austria’s Aleksandar Rakic.

Ex-bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling is making his UFC featherweight debut against fellow American Calvin Kattar, while undefeated middleweight Bo Nickal takes on Cody Brundage in another all-American fight.
