The UK vote to leave the European Union raises many important issues for Ireland’s exporters to Britain. But it is important to bear in mind that there will be a period of negotiations which will last at least two years before any trade agreements are put in place. Further, the British government has indicated that Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty, which must be triggered to begin the talks, will not be invoked immediately. The UK is and will remain a key market for Enterprise Ireland clients who recorded over €7.5bn in exports last year.
